Cold hands - warm heart

We've been lulled into a false sense of security this winter it's been so mild. The garden is totally confused. Potted geraniums are still in bloom and the odd rose has decided to flower, while spring bulbs are bursting out all over. I'm ready for spring. I'd even been surfing the net for the new spring fashions in the shops,  so the freezing weather that has descended on us this week has come as a bit of a shock. Snow's on it's way. I know, I know it makes everything look so beautiful, like my in lovely lane...... but it makes it so very difficult to get around and even with the heating cranked up and layers of clothes on in the house I'm still shivering!

Never mind, some lovely finds this week, like this great fifties magazine rack, and the shop is looking well stocked with goodies. Which gives me a nice warm glow.

Thankfully there was even more to keep me warm this week. Alabama's the Secret Sisters  concert on Monday night was more than enough to warm the cockles of anyone's heart.

My sons heart was even warmer on Monday when the sisters accepted his invitation to perform in Regent Streets Apple store. One lucky guy don't you think?

So what's keeping you warm on these cold, cold days?

  1. I need to find some warmth. We are in the midst of cold, winter storm after a really mild January. So I find warmth in a little granddaughter's smile, my grandson's laughter, thoughts of warmer days. Have a good week-end.

    1. I don't have grandchildren yet (I live in hope!) but I can imagine running around after them would keep you warm!

  2. Well I am in Texas, Houston to be precise and the current temps here are between 60-70°F. It has been a mild winter even by Texas standards. One good thing is that we have been getting some much needed rain, 2011 was the driest year on record and it was heartbreaking to see a lot of area trees and plants dying due to water shortage. My ideal Texas winter day is when it begins with cooler morning ( between 50-55°F ) then warms up to 65-70°F during the day and then gets cooler again at night ( between 40-50°F).

I've only been living in Texas since March of 2010. Before that I've lived in East Cost and Midwest and I gotta admit that pretty though that White stuff may look as it is just beginning to descent from heavens, once it's on the ground and freezers over it's a nightmare to drive on much less walk.

Now to answer your question: What keeps me warm is one ancient Blue sweater that was given to me (used) by my aunt-in law, endless cups of piping hot tea and a great book to be read nestled under the covers.

Stay warm & have a great weekend :)

    1. Oh to be in Houston right now. You can't beat a favourite old sweater and a cup of tea - do you have British roots by chance?!

    2. Yup, Houston does sounds like a dream right now, doesn't it? But on the flip side imagine if Jan/Feb is like that how will it be in July/August? Not pretty, not at all. Matter of fact, my Egyptian American friend who visited home last summer said it was actually cooler there then here. Makes one take a double take: Middle East colder then North America !?!

No, I cant' lay claim to any British roots-being born and raised in a former colony(Pakistan) won't stretch that far-I am afraid :) If, even after living in US for 17 years I am still occasionally overheard calling an 'elevator' a 'lift' or calling a 'diaper' a 'nappy' it is because I did my first ten years of schooling in a Convent run by Irish nuns- Oh Happy days!

    1. The weather in Europe has been awful. I heard Rome had snow for the first time in many years. A good time to do something crafty - sewing for me this weekend I think xx

  4. i'm with you Louise snow is definitely on the cards....beautiful to look at from the warmth of the house but horrendous to contemplate going out in......still i do think winter should be cold unlike the weather we've been experiencing in our part of the world

  7. Your snow pictures are lovely, my friend. Whenever I see pictures of the snow, my heart sings, as we don't see much snow here in sunny Southern California. I smiled when you said Cold hands, Warm heart. My dad used to say that to me. He passed away over 20 years ago, and is my heart every day. A happy week to you.
